Arc 496 – Proposal
The first time I read about your competition I knew that my team and I will be working hard in order to deliver our entry. Although my company specializes in residential buildings, I really love making interiors, that’s why I took that competition to heart. My team and I have been discussing your task for more than a week before we actually started drafting. We went through lots of ideas and something was always missing. We initially wanted to give motion to the office creating some organic and parametric forms, but we then realized that this would not be the appropriate approach for the headquarters of your company. Because of the height of the space we decided to create a second level, which is to be accessed via a staircase. On that second level there is a cosy sofa, an armchair and two small coffee tables. The so-called terrace/balcony or 2nd level in our proposal is a place to relax. A nook where you can drink a coffee, chat to others or even have a small nap during the lunch break. We wanted to give the feel of floating to the balcony that’s why we made approximately half of the tiles of its floor of reinforced glass and the other half of wood. The staircase is of the same wood so that it matches the style of the balcony. It’s railing is made of glass.
After all this is an office and there must be work spaces. In our proposal we provide 2 private offices which are surrounded by glass walls and 12 non private work spaces/desks. Moreover, there is a conference hall with seats for 10-12 persons which is divided from the rest of the room with massive wooden vertical blinds. In this hall there are two large white walls on which could be projected presentations. There is a small kitchen just below the balcony where could be integrated some appliances. In addition there is a countertop with three stools.
We like the colours of your brand, that’s why we used both of them. We also added a green as the 3rd main colour in our colour scheme which is not as intensive as the blues that we already had. Since the blue is the colour for offices we wanted to keep both your blues, but we also wanted to warm up and brighten a little bit the setting, that’s why we used exactly this green. It has a yellow-orange in it and is an eye calming colour. In addition to the wooden material that you already have in your office we picked up one more – a darker one. It contrasts really good to the bright blues and also amplifies the green. In order not to make the office too motley we sometimes used white surfaces. We made them glossy so that they reflect the other colours in the room. The room with the work spaces has a massive pattern of blue plastic on two of its walls. There is no functionality at all it is just the eye-pleasing effect we wanted to achieve. It is always easier to work when the environment is not monotonous. The monotonous walls make the workers feel bored and exhausted. In addition to the pattern there are two wide pictures on the wall which somehow reflect the pattern of the opposite wall. Those are not expensive pictures just high quality images downloaded from Internet. In the two rooms there are boxes in the three main colours. The light blue and the dark blue boxes are for storage and the green ones which are made of green rattan serve as pots for flowers whatever decorative or real ones. Because of the height of the frame with boxes in space 107 we decided to put a sailor ladder on a sliding mechanism which is attached to the wooden beams. In this way the upper boxes could be easily reached and if there are plants they could be watered.
There are many more little details which can be worked on, but all in all this is our main idea. If you like the way we work we are ready to develop our project even more.
