We are wanting to freshen up our kitchen and family room area. The area needs to feel fresh, clean and uncluttered, but still be a family friendly area, and not too cold/modern. This area is the hub of our home - this is the playroom, tv watching area, and social gathering location for our teenagers.
We are looking at a neutral paint color (Sherwin Williams - Nantucket Dune) to replace the yellow for the entire downstairs but we are not opposed to accent walls of color.
Kitchen - We must keep the kitchen cabinetry, granite counter top (but I would love to change it), white blinds, tile flooring and chairs in breakfast room (Bassett Furniture - Woven Dining Chair). We want to paint our kitchen cabinetry and we are looking for recommendations if we should go dark or light or combination of the two, adding cabinetry hardware (brushed satin nickel or bronze), adding a backsplash, changing light fixtures (A MUST) and drapery. We are also going to replace the microwave and oven to stainless steel. As far as light fixtures for over the cooktop we like this long pendant at AWE but they don't carry it anymore http://www.atwestend.com/Catalogue/lighting/electric-pendant-lamps-with-glass-shade.html
If you can find drapery on Smith and Noble or a site comparable website so we can order samples to look at before ordering.
Family Room - We must keep the sofa and we need some storage option for our youngest daughters toys (currently the chest), and a TV (doesn't have to be the one we currently have), the rest of the furniture can be changed out. We are open to suggestions for the mantle - it can be painted or changed entirely.
As far as color we tend to go with a neutral base with color being brought in with artwork/drapery/rug. No more gold yellow/red/orange. I recently made a trip to Sherwin Williams and was drawn to SW 6452 Inland. We would like the paint color to be from Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore.
To give you an idea of what we like I have saved some inspirational spaces on Houzz http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/2433758/thumbs/living Places we have bought furniture at in the past are Home Source (http://www.homesourcetx.com) for Indian / Indonesian solid wood furniture, Bassett Furniture (sofa and breakfast chairs), Cost Plus World Market (coffee/side tables).
We just want to freshen up this area of our house so affordability is key!!! We have another competition going currently for our master bathroom and the bulk of our available money will be going to that mess of a space.
We would like an interior view of the space and a list of paint colors and store/websites where hardware/lighting/furniture/rug/accessories were selected from. We are located in Houston and if local stores are selected that would be nice but NOT necessary.
