Redecorating a master bedroom measuring 13x18, with a tray ceiling, beige wall-to-wall carpeting, and white trim. Decorating is complicated by 3 windows and 4 doors that interrupt the wall space, including a pocket door to a walk in closet, and doors to the hallway, master bath and a second walk in closet. Since the room is on the street side of the house, the shades are usually pulled for privacy, with the only natural light coming from the adjacent bathroom.
Create a space that’s functional, tranquil, and conducive to sleep (obviously). Open to all ideas for layout, paint colors on walls and slanted portion of tray ceiling, furniture, light fixtures, window treatments and decorating. The room is virtually bare at the moment and we intend to execute the project as soon as possible. This is the first of several redecorating projects.
We tend to prefer warm earth tones. Current furniture includes a traditional 5-piece bedroom set in dark cherry. We would like to incorporate some or all of those pieces into a new look for sentimental and budgetary reasons. We also have a 21 in flat screen TV that we’ve considered mounting on a wall (the current cable hook up is not in a convenient location - on the wall to the right of the bathroom door, 4-5 ft in and to the left of the bed in attached photos– but can be moved). We also would like to use paint to create some visual depth with the tray ceiling. To the extent its relevant, the tile and wall colors in the adjacent master bath are beige with a tinge of peach. Countertops are Corian Sandstone, vanities are red birch.
