We would like to add a sunroom / orangery onto the dining room. We would like an indoor/ outdoor wood burning fireplace (at least wood burning on one side), an orangery type skylight, and large windows or french doors (possibly sliding) with screens leading to the yard. We live in the Chicago area where it is cold in the Winter, so we would like radiant-heat flooring or other means in order to use the space year round. The dining room currently has three sets of french doors leading outside to a brick deck (on cement). The surrounding landscaping could include a built-in grill, dining area with pergola, pottage garden, outdoor fireplace seating area and garden shed, preferably matching the style of our home.
This Cape Cod brick and shake shingle home was built in 1942 and has been completely renovated. The current brick deck faces west and measures 35 ft. long by 12 ft. wide. The sunroom addition would have access from the master bedroom on the South and the dining room on the East . The kitchen door is north of the sunroom and would probably not be a part of the sunroom. There are two brick steps leading up to the kitchen. We plan on changing the three sets of dining room doors to sliding french doors with transoms for easier access to the sunroom. (The current doors are impossible to open.) The sunroom could be larger than the current patio brick space. We just added a bay window and skylight to the kitchen. A new gas grill hook up is directly below the kitchen bay in the corner. The yard is 75 ft. wide by 150 feet deep with a rain garden on the south side in the back. The dining room is 11ft. 6 In. wide by 18 ft. 6 in. long.
