We are remodeling the kitchen of our new home. We have three little children and we spend a lot of time in the kitchen. We are looking for an efficient and functional design that is also warm, comfortable and visually pleasing - the type of kitchen we will be happy to spend time in whether feeding the kids or when friends are over.
It is a large enough room, but the current design seems a bit cramped. The peninsula cuts the room in half and that blocks the area by the windows and makes it feel tight, and our preference is to have an open floor plan without that. However, at the same time, we want plenty of counter space, cabinet storage and (if possible) a pantry, and we will consider all designs.
We are looking for a design that provides easy access/movement around the room, with thought as to how the kitchen will be used - the sink near the dishwasher, countertop near the fridge and stove, and generally not having to always walk around a large island or too far between appliances and surfaces that often get used together.
We would like a kitchen table for 6, but that can go in the family room (referenced in drawings) instead of the kitchen. A countertop with chairs/stools where the kids can eat (in addition to the table) would be nice also, but not a must if it makes our other criteria too difficult to meet.
Part of the countertop (or other feature or appliance) can extend a little into the family room (as it does in the existing design), but there is a window (marked in the drawings) which appears to prevent going into that room too far.
Don't need to move any walls, but we have marked a window in the drawings ("Window A"). Our preference is to keep that window as we love the light, but if necessary to make the design work, we can remove that window and make that a wall.
Granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and light colored cabinetry.
For appliances we want:
- Refrigerator (side-by-side doors)
- 4 burner Stove & Oven (Range or separate)
